Alfalfa 1000mg
An
Ancient Herb to help improve general well-being
What is
Alfalfa?
Alfalfa is one of the most nutrient dense foods known. The name
alfalfa reflects this, originating from the Arabic word al-fac-facah,
which means father of all foods. With roots that can
stretch up to 40 metres into the ground, alfalfa can obtain a large
variety of minerals. It is high in protein and contains most of
the vitamins, as well as the pigment compounds the carotenoids and
chlorophyll.
The
history of use of Alfalfa
Alfalfa has a long history of use, both in herbal medicine, and
as a food. It is one of the earliest cultivated plants, with the
Arabs first discovering the benefits of alfalfa centuries ago. It
has been used medicinally in Chinese medicine since the sixth century
for a variety of ailments, and the leaves and flowering herb tops
have also been used therapeutically in the ancient practice of Ayurvedic
medicine in India.
Today, the germinating seeds are commonly eaten as a salad ingredient.
The whole flowing plant or the leaves of the plant are the parts
that are used for medicinal purposes, and preparations of the dried
leaf, such as tablets and teas, are available as a popular complementary
medicine and dietary supplement in many countries, including Australia,
to improve health and wellbeing.
